Beetroot halwa recipe | Indian sweets - Raks Kitchen (1)

The first time I tried this, it was total disaster, I ended up in making burfi, instead halwa.

Then after having that as dessert at my SIL’s place and another friend’s place, when I asked for recipe, they said its same as we do carrot halwa.

Only thing is I increased the sugar quantity a bit more. Otherwise the same.

Unlike carrot halwa, beetroot give more servings. My hubby and kiddo both are not fond of beetroot. That’s what it took so long for me to try this.

Servings 4

Cup measurements

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Beetroot grated
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 3 tablespoon Ghee
  • 2 cardamom crushed
  • 5 Cashew
  • 8 Pistachios optional

Instructions

  • Take a heavy bottomed pan (I used my small cooker) and fry the grated beetroot for 3-4 minutes with a tablespoon of ghee.

  • Add milk and bring to boil.

  • Cook until the mixture gets thickened in medium flame and then add sugar. Mix well.

  • Cook until the mixture is glossy and add ghee.

  • Continue frying until it starts leaving the sides.

  • Transfer to serving plate and garnish with nuts fried in ghee.

Notes

  • Do not add more sugar than mentioned as it will turn the halwa to burfi.
  • After cooling down, halwa will get more thickened, so switch off the flame accordingly.
