Why Make Easy Fruit Pizza

Is Fruit Pizza Healthy?

When a dessert is both delicious and healthy then it is a total win-win. That’s what makes this fruit pizza so amazing! It uses whole wheat flour, old fashioned oats and a smaller quantity of sugar to make the crust. Instead of icing/frosting for the “sauce,” the recipe cuts down on the amount of cream cheese used and subs with Greek yogurt.

Which Ingredients Can I Substitutes In Fruit Pizza?

This fruit pizza gives many substitutions to the traditional recipe to give it a healthier twist. In place of the sugar cookie crust, I made my own whole wheat oatmeal cookie crust.

For the cream cheese icing, I whipped up a lighter version with nonfat plain Greek yogurt. It also sneaks in a little protein too. I promise, no one will be missing the old version once they taste this!

Which Fruit Should I Use On Fruit Pizza?

The freshest and most beautiful fruit you can find! Seriously though, some fruits like watermelon that tend to be extremely watery will still taste good on a fruit pizza but may “water out” faster than others such as a blueberry. Also, depending on when you plan to serve your fruit pizza may also affect which fruits you choose. If you plan to make and serve the fruit pizza immediately, you should be fine with any combination of seasonal fruit. However, if the pizza is prepared a few hours before serving, avoid using fruit that may brown quickly like bananas and apples.

When Should I Serve Fruit Pizza? Can I Make Fruit Pizza Ahead?

Serve healthy fruit pizza any time you’re entertaining and need an impressive and colorful dessert. Adapt it to any special occasion. For example, use red and blue fruit to decorate it for the 4th of July. You can also write a special message on the top with fruit or choose fruit the color of your favorite sports’ team for a tailgate. Get creative and have fun with it!

Description

Looking for a dessert that will please both the adult and kid table? This Healthy Fruit Pizza fits the bill. Pretty enough to serve at a dinner party and fun enough to sneak in some fresh fruits for the kids. This healthy dessert pizza is a win win!

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup old fashion oats
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 3 oz light cream cheese
  • 2 tbsp sweetener of choice (maple syrup (honey, very ripe banana, etc))
  • 1 kiwi (sliced)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 peach
  • 1 pint blueberries
  • 1 pint strawberries (sliced)
  • 1 pint raspberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a round pizza pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, cinnamon and baking powder. In a small bowl, whisk egg, brown sugar, vanilla, and oil. Add the wet mixture to the dry mixture and stir until ingredients combine.
  3. Pour batter onto pizza pan lined with parchment paper gently spreading into a circle. The dough may be too small for the size of your pan. If so, just form the dough into a round shape. Bake for 10 minutes or until the “crust” is golden brown.
  4. While the crust is baking, combine Greek yogurt, cream cheese, and sweetener of choice in a small bowl.
  5. Allow crust to cool then spread yogurt mixture on top of the crust and decorate with fruit.
