We just got home from the lake and every time we go and there’s a crowd my mom whips up a couple of pans of delicious and simple cheesy hash brown casserole. They are heaven in your mouth. What is Hash Brown Casserole?

It’s heaven in your mouth. I know I said that already but it is! It’s actually a combination of 5 basic ingredients – cream of chicken soup, sour cream, cream cheese, shredded cheese and shredded frozen hash browns. Mix the ingredients together, bake and voila you have the very best side dish there ever was.

What Ingredients Do You Need for a Simple Cheesy Hash Brown Casserole?

  • 1 block of cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 8oz bag of shredded cheddar cheese (reserve 1/2 C. for topping)
  • 1 10.5 oz can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 8 oz container sour cream
  • 1 bag of shredded frozen hash browns (thawed)

How Do You Make this Simple Hash Cheesy Brown Casserole Recipe?

Now that we have all the ingredients let’s start cooking. This is gonna be good. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and pull out your cream cheese and shredded hash browns to allow time to soften/thaw.

You want the cream cheese softened so it’s easier to mix together. Then, grab a large bowl and combine all the ingredients. Add in the block of cream cheese, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, shredded hash browns, and shredded cheese,. Make sure to reserve 1/2 cup shredded cheese for topping.

Grease a 9×13 glass baking dish and then pour the combined ingredients in and tamp down gently with a flat spatula. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 C. shredded cheese on top.

Place in the oven for 45-50 minutes (longer if the hash browns are not thawed). The cheese on top should be melted and you should see bubbling around the edges of the pan.

You will be tempted to dive right in but I’ll warn your from my own experience, allow it to sit and cool for a few minutes before eating!

Like I said, our family loves it best with BBQ, specifically BBQ chicken breast and my grandmother’s bacon green beans. It also would pair perfect for a ham or turkey for the holidays. You can’t go wrong pairing this hash brown casserole with any meal. Try pairing it with these simple sweet BBQ meatballs or these yummy simple BLT wraps.

  6. Spread remaining 1/2 C. shredded cheese on top.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes uncovered in a preheated 350 degree oven.
